In 2010 the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) established Residential Independence Pty Ltd (RIPL). RIPL is a property trust dedicated to the development of small-scale home-like living environments. These new environments offer a model for supported independent living, bringing together the design of the built environment and the use of assistive technologies to meet the needs of tenants with near 24-hour care requirements (TAC, 2011).
Our research group was commissioned to develop and deliver post occupancy evaluations of a number of RIPL projects. Research evidence informed recommendations for RIPL design and technology briefs and subsequent delivery of housing projects. Innovative, and internationally award-winning, interactive reports with navigable panoramas demonstrate ‘things to consider’ for a wide range of stakeholder audiences.
